 Background
The Don Gorge is an area of outstanding natural beauty to the west of Doncaster in South Yorkshire.  As the name implies, the river is bordered on either side by steep limestone cliffs which were carved out over thousands of years by the receding ice flows of the last ice age.
The Gorge is accessed via Boat Lane in Sprotbrough village to the north bank and Mill Lane, Warmsworth to the south bank.  Road bridges across the canal and river link both banks and allow access to the Trans-Pennine Trail which extends through the Gorge on the north bank of the river.
For the purposes of this group, The Don Gorge is defined as being the stretch of the River Don west of Doncaster
from the A1(M) motorway in the east to Conisbrough Viaduct in the west.
The group works in conjunction with the Don Gorge Strategic Partnership.
Aims
to promote, for the benefit of the public, the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural
environment of the area known as "The Don Gorge"
and
to advance the education of the public in the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural
environment of the area known as "The Don Gorge"

Management

We have a committee representing all sections of the community, from both the Sprotbrough and Warmsworth sides of the River Don.  We welcome suggestions for improving and promoting the area in a sensitive way and would like the local community and visitors to share our responsibility in maintaining what is an area of outstanding natural beauty.
