Living in the gorge for 13 years, I don't think I have ever seen a thrush in the garden behind our cottage, though I have seen an odd one at the front so your survey is very interesting. You obviously know much more about birds and their song than I do. I often hear bird calls at the front of the cottage that I don't recognise and wonder what they are. It would be interesting to meet you when you are visiting the Flash sometime. This is a bird that disappeared from the part of Sprotbrough where I live, although the sound of two birds singing this Spring in fields near my street prompted me to undertake my survey at the Flash. I was pleased to note a singing bird every 20 - 30 metres along the track, and recorded 12 birds on territory in a relatively small area. I have no idea how this compares to previous years, but I was heartened to know that a viable population exists in the local area.DaveMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02482715622986246441noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2939268443607844348.post-22936197510288071252012-04-26T20:13:58.328+01:002012-04-26T20:13:58.328+01:00Thanks John. At one time they must have been the only supply. The estate was sold off around 1924 or so and when my mother moved into one of the so-called Tower Cottages at Lower Sprotborough in 1938 or 39, there was a bowser which was filled each week. Later, a cold water supply was installed in each of the cottages - and probably in the rest of the cottages in the village. Not sure of the dates of all these changes, but we only had cold water on tap when I was a child in the 40's and 50's, the washing boiler being used to obtain larger quantities of hot water for the tin bath etc.Liz Reevehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09470169106368912050noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2939268443607844348.post-37229295510172612822011-12-24T13:03:43.845+00:002011-12-24T13:03:43.845+00:00Great work and thanks
